Arriving in Madrid at 11pm we called Juanje from a payphone, arranged to meet him the next day. In the meantime we needed a place to stay.
Unlike London and Bordeaux there was no sleeping in the station. As the security cleared us from the station we frantically asked for a hotel. The one outside the station happened to be four star. Asking for less price they recommended a different station along the metro line.
After the Metro we ask at the ticket/info booth in the station. Finally ‘hotel’ translates to ‘hostelas’ and they shows us the map. Upon leaving the station we are surrounded by low cost options. We pick the first one we come to.
On offer in the room was two beds, one double one single; a television without remote control; a small black cockroach whose fate involved my left trainer.
